What is congenital factor VII deficiency?

Factor VII deficiency is a rare inherited bleeding disorder affecting both males and females. The frequency and severity of bleeding episodes varies from person to person.

Bleeding severity ranges from mild to severe and symptoms include:

  • Bleeding into the mucous membranes (e.g. mouth and nose linings) - this includes bleeding in the mouth and nosebleeds
  • Bleeding into joints
  • Bleeding into the muscles
  • Bleeding into the stomach or intestines
  • Abnormal menstrual bleeding
  • Brusing very easily

Surgical bleeding is a major concern for people with FVII deficiency.
